My Dad called early this morning to tell me to watch KBYU at 10:00 (my time) for a news conference from Salt Lake City. I knew it would be to announce the new Presidency of the church. It was wonderful to witness the announcement and hear the new Presidency speak. I am most grateful that a loving Heavenly Father continues to see fit that we are a deserving people to have a mouthpiece, whom he speaks through, to guide us in the things we need to know to be better people and ulitimately return to live with Him again. Now, with this new leadership, I am so grateful for the blessing of personal revelation that I can pray to know that these men are truly chosen of God to represent him in word and deed. I already know it in my heart to be true but I feel it my personal responsibility, for me and for my children, to get on my knees and pray for an undeniable confirmation so I can be an example to my children to know without a doubt that I am choosing to follow the Prophet of God.
Thomas S. Monson Named16th Church President
SALT LAKE CITY 4 February 2008 Thomas S. Monson is the new president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it was announced today at a news conference in the Church Office Building. President Monson, 80, succeeds President Gordon B. Hinckley, who died 27 January.
The new world leader of the Church has called to serve with him in the First Presidency, the top governing body of the 13-million-member faith, President Henry B. Eyring, 74, first counselor, and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, 67, second counselor.
President Boyd K. Packer, 83, is the new president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The vacancy in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will be filled later.
